The 12th annual Florence Relay for Life will “ride the wave of hope” at Miller Park beginning at noon today. This year there are 33 teams signed up to populate the walking path for the 24-hour relay. They’ll actually get the first 30-minutes off as the annual ‘survivor walk’ gets underway at 12:30 following the opening ceremony.
Organizers say it’s a chance to not only fight cancer by raising money for research and support, but also to celebrate those who survive. It’s also intended to remember those who have passed on and one powerful reminder of just how far reaching cancer can be is demonstrated by the Luminaria lighting this evening. Hundreds of candles will line both sides of the one-third mile circuit beginning at nine pm.
