COQUILLE, Ore. (AP) – A former Bingham County, Idaho, sheriff’s
deputy has been convicted of aggravated murder and sentenced to
life in prison yesterday in the deaths of his mother and her
boyfriend at their Oregon coast home. Gabriel Morris had fled
cross-country with his wife and 4-year-old daughter after the 2010
killings, garnering national news coverage, include a segment on
“America’s Most Wanted,” before being arrested in Virginia.

SWEET HOME, Ore. (AP) – A family in Sweet Home, Ore., northeast
of Eugene is blaming a cougar attack for the loss of six of their
sheep – more than half of their herd. Shelley Garrett tells KEZI-TV
that her family found three of their Blackbelly Barbados sheep dead
along the front fence yesterday morning and three others missing,
including a 2-week-old lamb. The Garretts say the sheep were more
than just pets, but part of the family.

GASTON, Ore. (AP) – Three firefighters were injured fighting a
two-alarm fire at a lumber mill in Gaston. The firefighters were
injured in an explosion that occurred more than two hours after the
initial call yesterday to the Stimson Lumber mill. Their injuries
are described as non-life threatening. The cause of the fire has
not yet been determined.

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (AP) – Police say no criminal charges will be
filed against a medical marijuana grower who shot a friend whom he
thought was a burglar. The Register Guard reports that the friend
was shot in the leg as he tried to open a window to enter the
28-year-old man’s home to retrieve his forgotten keys.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Multnomah County judge has renewed the
restraining order that Kaine Horman obtained against his wife,
Terri Lynn Moulton Horman, after the disappearance of their son in
Portland. The Oregonian reports the order was extended in June for
another year. Kaine Horman says he believes Terri is responsible
for the disappearance of their son, Kyron.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A Eugene woman who left her 2-year-old
daughter in a hot car has been sentenced to a month in jail and
three years’ probation. KVAL reports the sentence for 26-year-old
Amanda Nichols was part of a plea deal with prosecutors. The girl
was treated at a hospital and released to her father after she was
found alone in the car while her mother was shopping.

     SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon corrections officials say they have

used a stand-in to conduct a practice run of a lethal injection at

the Oregon State Penitentiary to prepare for the possible execution

of death row inmate Gary Haugen. Yesterday’s practice came the same

day Haugen originally was set to die. That date was scrubbed in

June after the state Supreme Court told a judge to first order a

mental competency evaluation for Haugen, who wants to waive his

appeals. In a phone interview, Haugen says that no one told him

ahead of time about the practice run.

home run, Colby Rasmus and Aaron Hill each drive in four runs and

the Toronto Blue Jays rallied twice in a 13-7 win over the Seattle

Mariners last night. Luis Perez, who took over for Brad Mills in

the fourth, earned the win. He matched his career high with four

innings, allowing three hits, one run, two walks and three

strikeouts. Jason Vargas pitched four-plus innings in the loss.

     PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Authorities say a teenager died after

an 80-foot fall from a cliff at Rocky Butte in east Portland. The

600-foot butte is an extinct volcano whose east slope was once

extensively quarried, leaving cliffs. The Oregonian says Austin Fisher, who would have been a junior this fall at David Douglas High School, died Monday. An experienced climber died there in May; another person was injured.

    

     PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Video taken by a police dashboard camera

shows Oregon quarterback Darron Thomas was a passenger in the car

when cornerback Cliff Harris was cited for driving 118 mph in June.

The video obtained by KATU-TV also shows Officer Ray Stallsworth

ask Harris if there is marijuana in the car, and Harris responds,

“we smoked it all.” Harris denies there are any drugs in the car

and later says it was a cousin who was smoking the drug. Harris was

cited for driving with a suspended license in a car rented by a

     PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A security officer caught a man suspected

of robbing a Bank of America branch in Portland yesterday

afternoon. Police say the man had presented a note demanding money

and was walking out with the cash when he was confronted and held.

Police say 51-year-old Charles Alexander Biddle also is wanted by

the U.S. Marshals Service.

    

     RENTON, Wash. (AP) – The Seattle Seahawks have signed veteran

safety Atari Bigby, adding experience to their young secondary.

Bigby was signed yesterday, and the team waived fullback Dorson

Boyce to clear a spot on the roster. Bigby spent six seasons with

Green Bay and was the full-time starter from 2007-09. His best

season came in 2007 when he recorded career highs in tackles,
