For the fifth year in the last decade Oregon’s Dungeness Crab harvest exceeded 20-million pounds. In all, says Nick Furman with the Oregon Dungeness Crab Commission, 21.2-million pounds valued at around $49-million dollars was hauled in by the 325 boats that ply coastal waters. That makes the season, which ended earlier this week, the second most valuable in recorded history. The top year was in 2005 when 33.6-million pounds worth nearly $53-million was landed. Furman says this year’s catch has an economic impact of more than $100-million to coastal communities.
