Florence police will be conducting three crosswalk enforcement operations over the coming weeks. The first is scheduled to happen Wednesday between nine AM and noon on Highway 101 at 17th street. Sergeant Harry Johnson says video surveillance will be set up at the crosswalk while an officer in plain clothes will be crossing back and forth.
Johnson says drivers are reminded they must come to a stop for pedestrians in a crosswalk until the pedestrian has cleared the lane in which the driver is travelling… plus the adjacent lane. He says a stopped car should be a clue to drivers that a pedestrian is crossing… don’t pass until you know what is going on. Further crosswalk enforcement actions are planned for September 7th and the 12th.
