NEWBERG, Ore. (AP) – Over 120 guests evacuated an Oregon hotel
following an early morning explosion, and authorities are
investigating whether it was the result of a drug-making operation.
The Oregonian reports the blast occurred at the Best Western hotel
in Newberg, near Portland. Police say a man and woman and a toddler
who had been in the room where the explosion happened were injured.
The extent of their injuries was not known.

SEATTLE (AP) – A Seattle judge will consider an Oregon woman’s
request today to keep her teenage sons away from a woman who killed
her own daughters 20 years ago. Trisha Conlon of Silverton had two
children with her former husband, retired Marine Lt. Col. John P.
Cushing Jr., in the 1990s. But they split up several years ago, and
John Cushing has since gotten back together with his first wife,
Kristine, who killed their 4- and 8-year old daughters in Southern
California in 1991. She was found not guilty by reason of insanity.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland police say an officer responding
to a report of a man with an aggressive pit bull trying to board a
bus fatally shot the dog. Lt. Robert King says shortly after
officers arrived at the bus stop yesterday afternoon, the dog
charged one officer, who evaded it without injury. King says when
the dog charged again, the officer fired and killed it. Last night
police identified the dog’s owner as 61-year-old Richard Cook and
arrested him for investigation of four misdemeanors.

SUTHERLIN, Ore. (AP) – A passenger who stuck his arm out a car
window lost the limb when the car tried to pass a tractor-trailer
rig in Southern Oregon but sideswiped it instead. State Police said
he was told the 33-year-old man was taken to Oregon Health &
Science University in Portland on Tuesday for an attempt to
reattach the arm, which was severed above the elbow. The hospital
says they could say only that Ryan Smith of Sutherlin was in fair
condition. Police say the driver of the car was arrested on charges
that included DUI.
