Danger could be just around the corner for thousands of Oregon school-age children says Marie Dodds with Triple-A. Some students are already back in the classrooms, but most of Oregon schools open next week. Dodds says there are some simple precautions that drivers can take to help keep the kids safe as the walk to and from school or the bus.
Number one… be on the lookout. Drivers and students both need to stay alert and be on the lookout for each other. Drivers especially should take a few extra seconds before pulling into or out of driveways. She says ditch the distractions like cell phones and come to a complete stop at stop signs. And pay attention to school buses… if one comes to a stop and activates flashing lights… traffic in both directions is required to come to a complete stop.
