The National Weather Service has issued an advisory for unseasonably warm September weather in Western Oregon this weekend. Today’s high in the Coast Range and to the East is expected to range into the lower 90s… and into the mid 90s for tomorrow and Sunday. There are plenty of opportunities to beat the heat by staying in the Florence area this weekend.
First up, the Fourth Annual Rods and Rhodies Classic Car Show begins tomorrow morning in Old Town Florence with dozens of the west’s best hot rods and antiques lining a three-block stretch of Bay Street. In addition to the ‘show and shine’ tomorrow and Sunday there’ll be a car cruise at six. It will be preceded by a procession of fire, police, coast guard and emergency medical personnel in remembrance of the tenth anniversary of 9-11. Then Sunday morning at 11, they’ll observe a moment of silence at the beginnings of the awards ceremony.
Also coming up Sunday will be the 17th annual Concert by the Lake at East Whoahink Day Use area. Presented by the Florence Kiwanis Club in cooperation with Honeyman State Park it will offer seven hours of music beginning at 10 AM. Performers include of the likes of Paul Biondi, the Kush Band, Chuey and the Regulators and the Sunday Night Travelers Band. There’s no admission charge, but food is available and donations are accepted for Quality Child Care of Florence.
