Here is the latest Washington, Oregon and Alaska sports news from
The Associated Press

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – Ted Ginn Jr. returned a kickoff and a punt
for touchdowns in a minute’s span late in the fourth quarter, and
the San Francisco 49ers beat the Seattle Seahawks 33-17 yesterday.
Ginn ran a kickoff back 102 yards moments after the defending NFC
West champion Seahawks had closed within 19-17. It was the
second-longest kick return at home and fourth-longest in team
history. New Seattle quarterback Tarvaris Jackson threw a late
55-yard touchdown pass to Doug Baldwin in Jackson’s debut as Matt
Hasselbeck’s 2011 successor.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – It’s hard to say whether Oregon’s Darron
Thomas was just messing with reporters when he insisted he wasn’t
aware that he had thrown six touchdowns against Nevada. Thomas
completed 13 of 19 passes for 295 yards and those six TDs in
Oregon’s 69-20 victory over Nevada on Saturday at Autzen Stadium,
the Ducks collectively sending the message that the season-opening
loss to LSU was not going to define them.

SEATTLE (AP) – Katie Smith and Camille Little had 17 points
apiece to lead the defending WNBA champion Seattle Storm to an
81-70 win over the Chicago Sky last night. Swin Cash added 15, and
Sue Bird had 10 for Seattle, which has won eight of nine. The Storm
had already secured the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference
playoffs. Seattle’s Lauren Jackson sat out to rest for the playoff
opener Thursday at home against Phoenix.

SEATTLE (AP) – Alex Gordon hit a pair of RBI doubles and four
Kansas City pitchers combined to hold the Seattle Mariners to six
hits in the Royals’ 2-1 victory yesterday. Rookie left-hander
Everett Teaford pitched five scoreless innings, allowing three
hits, walking one and striking out five to pick up his first big
league victory in his first career start after 23 relief
appearances. Joakim Soria pitched the ninth to pick up his 28th
save in 35 chances.
