PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Marion County prosecutors say a woman has
been banned from owning animals for five years after pleading no
contest in an animal neglect case. Authorities say Mikerra Lane
neglected three horses and 14 llamas. Deputies say they found the
three horses malnourished and the llamas to be starving. The
prosecutor’s office says the animals are now healthy in a
sanctuary.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Portland
says Oregon’s American Indian tribes will receive a $5.8 million
grant to bolster public safety on the nation’s reservations. The
money will go toward methamphetamine enforcement; alcohol and
substance abuse; corrections and correctional alternatives;
violence against women; elder abuse; juvenile justice; and tribal
youth programs.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A 34-year-old man has pleaded guilty to
four Portland bank robberies attributed to the “River Rat Bandit”
that netted more than $96,000. In addition to the four Portland
bank jobs, The Oregonian reports that the robber hit 14 banks or
check-cashing outlets in Washington state. Prosecutors say that
under a plea agreement, Alexey Perez-Hernandez is expected to serve
28 years in federal prison and be ordered to pay nearly $25,000.
Sentencing was set for Dec. 7.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Pentagon says a 35-year-old soldier
from Portland has died in Afghanistan of wounds suffered when
insurgents attacked his unit with mortar, machine gun and small
arms fire. Sgt. 1st Class Danial R. Adams died Tuesday in Wardak
province. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 10th Special Forces
Group (Airborne), Stuttgart, Germany.
