Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police say a woman is dead after the car
she was driving plowed through the seawall at Waterfront Park in
Portland at about 3:00 this morning. Fire Bureau divers found the
car about a half hour later in the Willamette River and recovered
the body of a woman in her 30s or early 40s. Efforts to revive her
were unsuccessful. Police are investigating.
CATHLAMET, Wash. (AP) – The Coast Guard says a 584-foot cargo
vessel ran aground in the Columbia River near Cathlamet, Wash.,
last night but there are no visible signs of pollution. No injuries
were reported from the mishap at Puget Island. The Coast Guard says
the tugboats planned to help move the vessel at high tide early
today about 20 miles west to an anchoring spot near Astoria, Ore.
FLORENCE, Ore. (AP) – Now that an online process is available,
general contractors and tradesmen in Oregon will no longer have to
stop what they’re doing to go stand in line for building,
electrical or plumbing permits. In Florence, a limited test run of
the ePermit program has been under way since 2009. Building
official Carl Dependahl (DEPP-en-doll) tells KCST the online
permits should be a big time-saver for builders.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon Humane Society says curiosity
— not cruelty — may have been the problem in the case of kittens
initially reported to have been tossed from a moving minivan in
Portland. Society investigators now say the kittens likely crawled
into the vehicle’s undercarriage and fell out as the owner drove to
work. No animal abuse charges are planned.
