Hunters in Western Oregon will begin their search for the Black Tail Deer beginning October First. For those who may be successful, the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is asking for some help in monitoring deer populations.
Hunters can pick up a prepaid mailer at ODFW offices and license sales agents to mail back one of the two middle incisor teeth from their harvest. Michelle Dennehy with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife says the teeth can help determine the deer’s age. Successful hunters that mail in a tooth will get a post card in about nine months telling them how old there deer was.
