PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Four Portland firefighters lifted a pickup
truck to rescue a man who was trapped underneath after an accident.
Battalion Chief Terry Munro tells KGW that strength was the
quickest and most efficient way to reach the man after the crash
early yesterday that left the on its side. The injured man was
taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Oregon’s seven universities expect the
largest number of international students ever when classes begin
today. The Oregonian reports total enrollment at the universities
will likely top 100,000, a record. That’s 20 percent growth over
four years. The international student population jumped 45 percent
in four years. Oregon draws a large number of students from China,
India, South Korea, Saudi Arabia and Japan.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Oregon’s largest wolf pack has moved deep
into the state and into Washington, and the overall number of
wolves in Oregon is expected to climb after falling from 21 to 12.
State assistant wolf coordinator Roblyn Brown says fluctuation of
wolf numbers and movement is normal.
TILLAMOOK, Ore. (AP) – A surfer who drowned over the weekend in
Tillamook County has been identified as 43-year-old Duncan Green
McCowen of Corbett. State police say McCowen was surfing at Short
Sands Beach on Saturday when other surfers noticed his board
flipped, found him unconscious and brought him to shore, where they
started CPR. He was flown to Tillamook County General Hospital
where he died.
