Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Supporters of the Occupy Wall Street
demonstrations in New York are organizing events in Oregon. As of
yesterday afternoon, nearly 4,000 people have “liked” the Occupy
Portland Facebook page, which says a downtown march is planned for
Thursday afternoon. Another for Occupy Salem says people plan to
take over a park next to the Capitol next Monday, and a meeting is
scheduled in Eugene on Tuesday evening.

BEAVERTON, Ore. (AP) – Beaverton police have arrested a
Vancouver, Wash., couple in a series of “smash and grab” thefts
that ripped GPS units and other valuables from vehicles in hotel
and motel parking lots. Officer Pam Yazzolino says police alerted
early Saturday by Homewood Suites employees to a theft in progress
stopped a car and arrested Sergiy Selivanov and his wife, Marina
Chertovskaya. Police found numerous GPS units in the car and
detectives have been working to identify victims and return the
stolen items.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – TriMet says it’s investigating a complaint
that one of its drivers berated a woman and her crying baby into
getting off a bus. Fellow passenger Jennifer Chapman says she
overheard the driver say, “I can’t drive with that noise.” TriMet
says drivers aren’t supposed to eject passengers from “vulnerable
populations,” including women transporting children. Chapman says
the baby wasn’t that loud and the other passengers also got off at
a stop in the Portland suburb of Hillsboro in protest Thursday
night.

COOS BAY, Ore. (AP) – Four years after a rail line from Eugene
to the Oregon coast ground to a halt, service is on the verge of
being restored. The World of Coos Bay reports the first train of
the Coos Bay Rail Link is expected after this week. The Port of
Coos Bay has bought the line for $16.6 million and fixed nine
tunnels as well as other repairs. Yet to come is a bridge repair at
Coos Bay that will extend the line to more shippers.
