CLACKAMAS, Ore. (AP) – A man has been hospitalized after he
tried unsuccessfully to save a woman from a fire at a mobile home
park in Clackamas. Fire crews were unable to immediately enter the
home because it of the heavy flames when they arrived yesterday.
They later found the woman’s body inside. A man who attempted to
rescue her was repelled by the heat and had to be taken to a
hospital. A firefighter also suffered minor injuries.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A man is dead after an early morning fire
at his home. Portland Fire and Rescue says firefighters responded
just before 4 a.m. yesterday and found flames in the finished attic
of a one-story home. That’s where the man’s body was found. The
other resident, a woman, escaped uninjured. It’s not clear what
caused the fire. The medical examiner’s office is investigating the
cause of death. The man’s name wasn’t released.

FOREST GROVE, Ore. (AP) – A Washington man has been arrested for
investigation of raping a 14-year-old Oregon girl. Deputies say
they received a call Saturday from the girl’s father at their home
near Forest Grove saying he’d found a man in the girl’s bedroom.
The man, later identified as 21-year-old Jacob Bryant of Everett,
Wash., ran off. Deputies found him in a field near the home.
Authorities say he entered the home through a window.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Oregon prison officials say they’ll need
to open three more prisons to hold 2,000 new inmates expected in
the next decade. The Oregonian reports that the cost of opening two
prisons now sitting empty and building a third would be at least
$608 million by 2021. But critics, including the Oregon District
Attorneys Association, say the state is overestimating the number
of inmates that will join the prison population.
