Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A magnitude 5.3 earthquake jolted an area
about 140 miles off the southern Oregon coast last night. A
National Earthquake Information Center spokesman in Golden, Colo.,
says there was no danger of a tsunami from the shallow quake.
Geophysicist Rafael Abreu says there were no immediate reports of
damage. He says reports of people feeling the quake ranged from
Coos Bay and North Bend on the Oregon coast as far north as
Portland, Ore. In California, “felt reports” came from Santa Rosa
and Sebastopol, north of San Francisco.

MYRTLE CREEK, Ore. (AP) – Witnesses in Myrtle Creek say an angry
gunman wounded a real estate agent in a parking lot, then
confronted police, who shot him when he refused to drop his weapon.
KDRV says Roseburg police report the gunman died. Associated Press
calls to Roseburg police were referred to Douglas County sheriff’s
Deputy Dwes Hutson, who did not immediately return a phone message
last night. A Mercy Medical Center spokeswoman said the injured
man, identified by the Roseburg News-Review as Vince Lytsell, was
in fair condition.

FOREST GROVE, Ore. (AP) – It took fire crews more than four
hours to rescue a prison inmate who suffered an apparent back
injury while working with an inmate crew in Oregon’s Tillamook
State Forest. Forest Grove fire spokesman Dave Nemeyer says the
unidentified inmate was working to repair hiking trails near the
Gales Creek Campground yesterday when a log broke free above the
crew and began to roll toward them. The inmate reportedly jumped
out of the way, fell and landed on a stump. He was taken to Legacy
Emanuel Medical Center in Portland.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Protesters in Portland supporting the
Occupy Wall Street movement split into two groups as authorities
called for the clearance of a downtown street that had been closed
by the rallies. Some of the activists agreed to clear off Main
Street, but a handful of protesters remained. Occupy Portland
activists distanced themselves from the faction in the street.
Mayor Sam Adams called for the reopening of the downtown street
after speaking with the activists. No arrests were reported as of
yesterday.
