The Associated Press

ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) – The Oakland Raiders have agreed to
acquire linebacker Aaron Curry from Seattle two years after the
Seahawks selected him fourth overall in the draft. Raiders senior
executive John Herrera says the deal was agreed to yesterday and
will be official once the league approves it and Curry passes his
physical. Curry failed to live up to the high expectations of being
a high draft pick and lost his starting job earlier this year.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) – The NFL has fined New York Giants
safety Kenny Phillips $20,000 for a hit on Seattle Seahawks tight
end Zach Miller. Phillips was flagged for a hit on a defenseless
Miller in the first quarter of the Seahawks’ 36-25 win over the
Giants on Sunday. It marked the second time this season that
Phillips has been fined by the league for a hit. He was assessed a
$10,000 fine on the opening weekend of the season for unnecessarily
striking Redskins tight end Fred Davis in the head and neck area.
No penalty was called on that play.

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) – Washington State starting quarterback Jeff
Tuel has been medically cleared to play Saturday against No. 7
Stanford. Tuel fractured his clavicle during his first series of
the season on Sept. 3 against Idaho State, and has not played
since. Coach Paul Wulff says Tuel met with team physicians
yesterday and was cleared to play with no restrictions. But Wulff
says whether Tuel plays and for how long will be game time
decisions.

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – Mike Riley does not hesitate when asked
where he believes Oregon State’s biggest improvement has been this
season. He says it’s the Beavers’ pass defense. The strides the
team has taken in this area were evident Saturday when the Beavers
picked up their first win of the season, 37-27 over Arizona, after
limping to a 0-4 start. While talented Wildcats quarterback Nick
Foles passed for 378 yards and avoided getting sacked, Riley says
he was impressed with the constant pressure that caused Foles to
throw two interceptions.

PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) – Basketball fans attending Washington State
games will enjoy a new scoreboard this season. The $3 million
scoreboard is ready to go at Beasley Coliseum on the Pullman
campus. The board features four large video screens and a digital
message ring around the bottom. The old scoreboard was installed in
1992 and replacement parts were no longer available. A major
failure during a game last spring prompted the purchase.
