Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press
EVERETT, Wash. (AP) – A young couple suspected in a murder spree
that claimed four lives in three Western states have been returned
to Washington state to face charges that could bring the death
penalty. Everett, Wash., police Sgt. Robert Goetz (Gets) say David
“Joey” Pedersen and his girlfriend, Holly Grigsby, arrived from
northern California and been booked into the Snohomish County Jail.
They had been held in the Yuba County, Calif., jail since their
Oct. 6 arrest. They’re accused of killing Cody Myers in Oregon and
three other people.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A homeless man who robbed a Eugene, Ore.,
branch of U.S. National Bank for the second time had modest
expectations, even more modest results and now – a four-year prison
term. Federal prosecutors say 38-year-old Thomas Joseph Burgoyne
handed a teller a note that said, “This is a robbery, please put
$1,000 in the bag.” He left the bank with $560 in cash. FBI agents
arrested him the next day at a nearby motel.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A 32-year-old Portland, Ore., man has been
sentenced to more than two years in prison for his role in a
mortgage fraud scheme. Federal prosecutors say the scheme cost
lenders more than $3.8 million. Two other defendants also were
sentenced recently. Chadwick Amsden was sentenced yesterday in
Portland. Joel Rosabal was sentenced Oct. 5 to nearly three years
in prison. On Sept. 19, Adam Perkins was sentenced to nearly two
years and ordered to pay more than $1.2 million in restitution.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – It was the similarities more than the
differences that defined the only televised debate by three
Democrats hoping to replace former Oregon Rep. David Wu. State Sen.
Suzanne Bonamici, Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian and state Rep.
Brad Witt fielded questions last night on jobs, spending and trade,
among others, but mostly refrained from criticizing each other. The
winner in the Nov. 8 special primary will likely face GOP
businessman Rob Cornilles. Wu resigned in August amid reports that
he made an unwanted advance.
