EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A 63-year-old Cottage Grove woman who took
her missing father’s Social Security payment for more than 26 years
has been sentenced to 18 months in prison. Martha Ann McRae also
was ordered to pay $848,000 in restitution at $200 a month after
her release. The Register Guard reports the theft was discovered as
part of a check on beneficiaries over 100 years of age. McRae’s
father would be 104 if still alive today. He disappeared in 1984
near Las Vegas.
HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – A Rock Creek woman has been sentenced in
Hillsboro to 21 months in prison for a fatal collision. Pamela
Gibson was convicted last week of criminally negligent homicide for
running a red light last year and killing 80-year-old Betty Jean
Joseph at a Highway 26 off ramp near Beaverton. The Oregonian
reports Gibson was led away in handcuffs. Her lawyer said she
recently found out she was pregnant.
SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The man killed by Salem police early Monday
has been identified as 22-year-old Dru Larson. Marion County
prosecutors say the autopsy by the state medical examiner showed he
died of police gunshot wounds. The Statesman Journal reports his
mother and sister went to the intersection last night where police
said they fired because the driver of a stolen car put them in
imminent danger. Police have not released details. Witnesses said
the driver put the car in reverse toward officers.
NEWPORT, Ore. (AP) – The Lincoln County medical examiner has
identified the body found Saturday on the beach near Beverly Beach
State Park as a 38-year-old woman, Kayoko Umenishi, from the town
of Neotsu, near Lincoln City. She had been reported missing last
Wednesday, and the Lincoln County sheriff’s office is
investigating. There is no evidence of a crime.
