UMATILLA, Ore. (AP) – Authorities in Umatilla have identified a
27-year-old man fatally beaten in an assault near a truck stop.
Umatilla County District Attorney Dan Primus identified the victim
as Mario Calvillo Ramirez of Irrigon. He was beaten Tuesday night
and died at a local hospital. Umatilla police arrested 17-year-olds
Theodore Mendoza and Kevin Melendez for investigation of
first-degree manslaughter. A third man was being sought as a person
of interest.
HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – A Washington County, Ore., judge has
convicted a 15-year-old boy of aggravated murder in a fatal 2009
attack. Juan Carlos Negrete-Vasquez was tried as an adult and
convicted yesterday. He was just 13 when he was arrested several
days after 18-year-old Eduardo Andrade-Alcantar was killed in a
park and left on a river bank in Cornelius, Ore. Judge Steven Price
heard the case without a jury. Police say Negrete-Vasquez struck
the victim several times in the back of the head with a tire iron
and stabbed him. Sentencing is set for Dec. 8.
EVERETT, Wash. (AP) – A couple accused of a Northwest killing
spree pleaded not guilty yesterday in Everett, Wash., to two counts
of aggravated murder. The prosecutor has until Nov. 14 to decide
whether to seek the death penalty for 31-year-old David “Joey”
Pedersen and 24-year-old Holly Grigsby. They’re charged in the
deaths of Pedersen’s father, David “Red” Pedersen, and his wife,
Leslie Pedersen, in Everett around Sept. 26. They’re also suspected
of killing Cody Myers near Philomath, Ore., and Reginald Alan Clark
in Eureka, Calif.
SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The man killed by Salem police early Monday
has been identified as 22-year-old Dru Garret Larson. The Marion
County district attorney’s office says the autopsy by the state
medical examiner showed he died of police gunshot wounds. The
Statesman Journal reports his mother and sister went to the
intersection Tuesday night where police said they fired because the
driver of a stolen car put them in imminent danger. Police have not
released details. Witnesses said the driver put the car in reverse
toward officers.
