March, but state highway officials encourage drivers to consider
chains or snow-rated traction tires instead to limit road damage.
SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A 64-year-old Salem man is accused of giving
two girls methamphetamine in exchange for sex. Police arrested
Edward Randolph Johnston Monday at his home where they also found a
16-year-old runaway. She was returned to her parents. Lt. Steve
Birr tells the Statesman Journal Johnston also is suspected of
giving drugs to another underage girl for sex, and there may be
other victims.
HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – The Washington County sheriff’s office
says a 77-year-old Aloha man threatened to kill a neighbor and her
dog after a dog fight. The man was walking his two dogs Tuesday
when a dog ran out of the woman’s house and began fighting. She was
able to call off her dog. The 46-year-old woman says the man
returned with a gun and threatened to kill her and her dog, then
left. Deputies arrested the man, seized a pistol and jailed him on
one count of menacing.
MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – A former Jackson County sheriff’s deputy
who says he was wrongfully terminated has won $209,000 in economic
damages in a federal lawsuit at Medford. The Mail Tribune reports
the jury returned a verdict yesterday in favor of Jacob Franklin.
The 38-year-old says he was fired and his career ruined because of
his arrest in March 2009 of a former deputy who was a friend of his
superior officers.
