Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Portland-area congressional seat left
vacant by a congressman’s bizarre antics and a sex scandal is a
step closer to being filled. Republican businessman Rob Cornilles
and Democratic state Sen. Suzanne Bonamici easily won their
parties’ nominations in balloting yesterday.

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – Abortion opponents say they’re still
pursuing life-at-fertilization ballot initiatives in Oregon and
five other states after voters in Mississippi defeated one
yesterday. The “personhood” measure was intended to prompt a
legal challenge aimed at overturning Roe v. Wade, the 1973 U.S.
Supreme Court decision that established a legal right to abortion.
Personhood USA is trying to put similar initiatives on 2012 ballots
in Oregon, Montana, Nevada, California, Ohio and Florida. Voters in
Colorado rejected similar proposals in 2008 and 2010.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland police say they’re looking for a
possible link between the Occupy Portland camp and a Molotov
cocktail that went off outside a downtown office building last
night. Lt. Robert King says the device caused minor on an external
stairwell. The building is one block east of the two parks where
Occupy Portland demonstrators have been camped since Oct. 6.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The head of the Oregon University System says
he won’t appeal an appellate court ruling that declared a gun ban
on the seven campuses to be invalid. Chancellor George Pernsteiner
says the system still has authority to control its property and
facilities and can make and enforce internal policies and contracts
that ban guns from classrooms, dormitories and sports stadiums.
