Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A 75-year-old Eugene man blamed for a
wrong-way fatal crash on Interstate-105 has been arraigned in Lane
County on manslaughter and drunken driving charges. Police say
Eldridge Maready’s pickup truck was going the wrong direction on
the freeway Tuesday night near the Willamette River bridge when it
collided with a subcompact, killing Gerald Brooks of Florence. A
police spokesman told The Register Guard Maready was significantly
impaired by alcohol.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A 13-year-old boy who was beaten and shot
is the youngest gang-related death in Portland in a decade. The
Oregonian reports Julio Cesar Marquez had a Facebook page under
another name in which he bragged about gang-banging violence,
talked about smoking marijuana and his time in juvenile detention.
He was killed Sunday night and his body was found the next morning
in an alley.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland Mayor Sam Adams and Police Chief
Mike Reese are talking about the city’s next steps in dealing with
the Occupy Portland camp at a news conference set for 10 a.m. The
camp is losing sympathizers because of confrontations with police,
unsanitary conditions at the camp, frequent fights there, drug
abuse, and other troubles. The protesters say their purpose is
peaceful.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – The Eugene City Council has given Occupy
Eugene protesters permission to camp out at a city park. The
protesters had already moved to Washington-Jefferson Park. But the
council voted yesterday to make it official by approving a code
exemption that would allow camping. KEZI says the protesters have
until Dec. 15 to camp in the park.
