PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Occupy Portland protesters are taking
issue with a $662 billion defense spending bill. The Oregonian
reports some 30 protesters assembled at Salmon Street Springs
Fountain in opposition to the National Defense Authorization Act.
Protesters noted language in a version passed 93-7 by the Senate
version that says U.S. citizens suspected of terrorism can be
detained indefinitely.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police say Detroit Lions defensive tackle
Ndamukong Suh crashed his car into a tree in downtown Portland, but
was not injured. Police say Suh was not impaired and was
cooperative with officers after the crash early Saturday. Suh’s two
passengers were not injured. Suh is a graduate of Portland’s Grant
High School. He was the NFL’s 2010 defensive rookie of the year. On
Tuesday, the league suspended him for two games for stomping the
arm of a Packers player.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Federal prosecutors accuse an Oregon City
man of lying to the FDA’s consumer complaint line by saying his
mother suffered serious burns from drinking a bottle of water.
Authorities say the 34-year-old man first reported the Aug. 24
incident to the water company, Crystal Geyser. The Oregonian
reports that prosecutors say he later told FDA investigators that
he poured rubbing alcohol in the bottle and put it in the
refrigerator. He said he used the alcohol to clean his marijuana
pipes but had lost the cap.
CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – Ahmad Starks had 16 points and Oregon
State pulled away in the second half yesterday for a 71-46 win over
Montana, raising the 6-1 Beavers to their best start since 1980-81.
The Grizzlies trailed by 13 at halftime and got within nine early
in the second half before Oregon State went on a 20-4 run to lead
58-33 with 10:21 left. The Beavers had four 3-pointers in that
stretch, two by Starks. Montana got no closer than 20 points the
rest of the way.
