SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon officials say guards at the state
penitentiary at Salem fired warning shots and used chemical spray
to break up multiple fights involving about 50 inmates in the
prison yard. Corrections Department spokeswoman Jeanine Hohn says
two staffers and one inmate suffered minor injuries in the fights
that broke out yesterday. Multiple inmates were taken to
disciplinary segregation. An investigation is now under way.
TUMALO, Ore. (AP) – A Deschutes (duh-SHOOTS’) County father has
been arrested on a charge of shooting his son to death. KTVZ-TV
reports the arrest Sunday of 61-year-old James Hargrave on a murder
charge. The victim was his 29-year-old son Steven, who lived at the
home in the Tumalo area. Deputies say his mother called 911.
Sheriff’s Capt. Marc Mills told the station alcohol was believed to
be involved. An autopsy is set for today.
UNDATED (AP) – Investigators have talked to about 300 people in
the past three weeks in hopes of finding someone who saw something
that will help find the killer who nearly decapitated a young
grocery store clerk walking on a bike path through Ashland, Ore.
Police Chief Terry Holderness says they want to speak to an
unidentified jogger and a woman walking her dog on the bike path
shortly before the killing of 23-year-old David Grubbs.
FOREST GROVE, Ore. (AP) – Firefighters say an Oregon door
manufacturing plant worker has been airlifted to a hospital after a
2-foot-long piece of inch-wide wood pierced his abdomen. The
unidentified 33-year-old man was transported to a Portland trauma
center after he was injured yesterday afternoon while operating
equipment at Woodfold Manufacturing in Forest Grove. No report on
the worker’s condition was immediately available last night.
