Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press
WESTON, Ore. (AP) – The mayor of the Eastern Oregon town of
Weston has easily survived a recall election. More than 70 percent
of those casting ballots voted against removing Mayor Dwayne Thul.
Recall supporters contended the city is on a spending binge and
that Thul doesn’t want to listen to citizen concerns at council
meetings.

KALAMA, Wash. (AP) – A Dayton, Ore., man was run over by a
semi-truck and killed at a grain export terminal at Kalama, Wash.
The Cowlitz County sheriff’s office says 23-year-old Harold J.
Cozine was a passenger in another truck that had stopped Wednesday
at CHS Inc. He died at the scene of internal injuries.

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State says freshman football
player Fred Thompson has died. School officials say the 19-year-old
Thompson collapsed while playing basketball on campus yesterday. He
was pronounced dead after being taken to a hospital. At 6-foot-4
and 317 pounds, Thompson was a true freshman defensive tackle from
Richmond, Calif.

PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) – Charging papers show that a prison guard
who stopped to help a stranded motorist was stabbed to death when
the stranger tried to take the officer’s truck. Twenty-two-year-old
Joshua Weeks is charged with killing Buddy Herron. He was later
arrested at the wheel of Herron’s vehicle. Herron worked at the
Eastern Oregon Correctional Institution.
