PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The State Board of Higher Education has
scheduled a vote on the appointment of an interim president for the
University of Oregon. The board meeting is scheduled for 4 p.m.
today in Portland. The temporary leader would take over for Richard
Lariviere (la-RIV’-ee-AIR’), who was fired last month. Oregon
University System staffers have declined to say who is being
considered. Lariviere’s last day of work is Dec. 28.
COOS BAY, Ore. (AP) – A woman has filed a $5 million lawsuit
against Southwestern Oregon Community College in Coos Bay, saying
it didn’t do enough to protect her against a rape. The woman says
she was asleep in her on-campus room Oct. 22 when another student
dragged her from bed, drove her to his own building and raped her.
The World in Coos Bay says 22-year-old suspect Cody Dornbirer is
jailed in Coos County on multiple charges.
CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon State Police spokesman says a
defensive tackle who collapsed during a pick-up basketball game and
died was stricken so suddenly that even if emergency personnel had
been on the scene they likely could not have saved him. Lt. Gregg
Hastings says there’s no evidence of a crime in Wednesday’s death
of Oregon State freshman Fred Thompson. An autopsy is scheduled
today to determine the cause of death.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A 42-year-old Portland woman will remain in
jail until her next court appearance Dec. 19 on charges stemming
from a bank robbery in Eugene. Federal prosecutors say DNA from a
dropped bandanna led to the arrest of Lorinda Marie Goodin. The
Register-Guard reports Goodin appeared yesterday in U.S. District
Court on a charge of armed bank robbery in the Aug. 1 holdup at a
Pacific Continental Bank that netted just $1,750.
