Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press
ESTACADA, Ore (AP) – Oregon authorities say they’re resuming
their search today for a young girl who fell into the Clackamas
River in the Mount Hood National Forest. The search started last
evening after the sheriff’s office received a 911 call from the
girl’s father saying she was swept away near Austin Hot Springs, 60
miles southeast of Portland. The girl is 6 or 7 years old. The
river is running very fast and cold.

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – Police have shot and killed a man who waved
a knife at officers on the front porch of a home in Medford. Police
Chief Tim George a 911 call came yesterday afternoon from the man
who was threatening suicide. George says officers first tried to
use a stun gun, but after that failed, shots were fired. The dead
man is identified as 18-year-old Elias Angel Ruiz.

COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (AP) – Witnesses tell the Oregon State
Police the bicyclist killed on I-5 near Cottage Grove was trying to
cross the freeway he was hit. The bicyclist was not wearing
reflective clothing and the bike had no lights when he was
northbound on the southbound shoulder when he crossed into the path
of an SUV. The dead man is identified as Casey Michael
Pitts-Carroll, a transient who previously lived in Eugene.

ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) – The Coast Guard is closing multiple river
bars in Washington and Oregon to all vessels because of hazardous
conditions Sunday. Coast Guard officials are closing the bars at
Quillayute (KWIL-uh-yoot) River in Washington, as well as Siuslaw
River and Depoe Bay in Oregon. They also closed the bars at Yaquina
Bay and the Columbia River.
