PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland police say a man they shot and
killed Wednesday morning had pointed a replica handgun at officers.
Police say 21-year-old Bradley Morgan was on the roof of a parking
garage, where he called 911 and said he wanted to be killed by
police officers. He also threatened to jump. Two police officers
responded to the scene and talked to Morgan for about 25 minutes.
Police say he then pulled the replica handgun.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – An Occupy Portland demonstration billed as
an event to support the Egyptian revolution turned into an often
contentious march. A police spokesman said he was aware of four
arrests Wednesday night. Police on bicycles, horses and on foot
accompanied the demonstrators, who ranged in number from 50 to more
than 100.
SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Republicans in the Oregon Senate say they’ll
fight Gov. John Kitzhaber’s proposed overhaul of the Oregon Health
Plan unless it includes limits on medical malpractice claims. But
the governor says there’s no time in the Legislature’s one-month
February session to tackle such a controversial issue. Instead, he
says he’ll invite lawyers, doctors and others to the governor’s
mansion to hammer out a compromise for the Legislature to consider
in 2013.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A suit alleges the state of Oregon is
violating federal law at “sheltered workshops” it operates for
more than 2,300 disabled residents. The Oregonian reports
(http://bit.ly/wnaqko ) the United Cerebral Palsy Association of
Oregon and Southwest Washington along with eight individuals filed
the federal class action lawsuit Wednesday against Gov. John
Kitzhaber and top managers at the Department of Human Services.
