Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A jury has sided with more than 120
current and former Les Schwab Tire Center assistant managers,
finding the Bend-based retailer routinely failed to pay them for
working overtime. The Oregonian reports jurors ruled that Les
Schwab worked its assistant managers 66 hours a week on average,
including every other Saturday. The company deemed the assistant
managers exempt from state laws requiring that they be paid
time-and-a-half for hours worked beyond a regular 40-hour workweek.

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – A 21-year-old Oregon man accused of
spanking his year-old son 50 to 60 times because the child wouldn’t
stop crying has been charged with first-degree criminal mischief.
The Corvallis Gazette-Times reports that a day care employee told
the state DHS this week the little boy had bruises on his buttocks
and upper thighs. Brealan Mosieur of Philomath was charged
Wednesday.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Relatives of two women killed by an
off-duty Clackamas County sheriff’s sergeant are seeking $8 million
in a lawsuit that alleges the county, the sheriff and two top aides
knew the man was dangerously unstable. The Oregonian reports that
the wrongful death lawsuit alleges Sheriff Craig Roberts and the
others knew Sgt. Jeffrey Grahn presented a threat to his wife. Two
years ago a drunken Grahn confronted his wife and two of her
friends at a Gresham lounge and killed all three. The sergeant then
committed suicide.

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon school bus company has asked a
federal judge to dismiss a lawsuit brought by a driver fired for
refusing to take a Confederate battle flag off his pickup truck
while parked on school property. A lawyer for First Student Inc.
argues that the flag was to reflect Phoenix-Talent School District
driver Ken Webber’s “redneck” lifestyle, and not constitutionally
protected free speech. Webber’s lawyer argued that even as an
expression of lifestyle, the flag amounts to protected speech.
