panic attacks and fled on foot after a minor traffic accident in

He’s hospitalized in critical but stable condition.

accused of passing $100 bills at the Spirit Mountain Casino at
Grand Ronde. The sheriff’s office says Secret Service agents from
Portland are helping investigate the case that began Tuesday when
the bogus bills turned up at the casino. Investigators say they had
passed $1,700 worth of the phony bills at the casino and had more
in their car and where they were staying.

ONTARIO, Ore. (AP) – An autopsy has found that an inmate at
Snake River Correctional Institution was killed, and investigators’
prime suspect is his cellmate. State Police say Michael Hagen’s
cellmate has not been publicly identified.Hagen was serving time
for robbing a Portland check-cashing store and severely beating a
clerk.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Facing the loss of federal timber money,
Lane County Sheriff Tom Turner plans to close half the county’s
jail beds, lay off 80 employees and cut the patrol force so hard
that deputies will respond to only the most violent crimes. The
Register-Guard reports the county commission gave the sheriff the
OK to start the cuts in about 30 days. Turner calls the cuts
“widespread, life-threatening and potentially disastrous.”
