Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – For the second time, help from a Democrat has
allowed Republicans to put the brakes on one of Gov. John
Kitzhaber’s health initiatives. GOP lawmakers in the House targeted
a bill creating a health insurance marketplace for individuals and
small businesses. Democratic Rep. Mike Schaufler (SHAWF’-ler)
joined all 30 House Republicans in voting yesterday to send the
measure to a budget committee.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon Senate committee has advanced two
measures aimed at helping homeowners facing foreclosure, sending
them to the full Senate for a vote. The bills are a top priority
for Democrats. One would require lenders to meet with borrowers and
professional mediators before they could foreclose. The other would
outlaw a practice known as the “dual track,” in which lenders
work on loan modifications and foreclosure processes at the same
time.

SANDY, Ore. (AP) – The Clackamas County sheriff’s office says a
62-year-old Sandy man is dead after his pistol fired accidentally
as he was climbing over a barbed wire fence. Sgt. James Rhodes said
Monday that Robert Hoelting was walking last Friday near his home
in a remote, wooded area of the county. The state medical examiner
says Hoelting died of an accidental gunshot wound to the chest.
Sandy is southeast of Portland.

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – Police in Medford say they fired shots at a
fleeing vehicle, and after it crashed the driver was taken to the
hospital. The Mail Tribune reported Monday there was no immediate
word on the condition of the driver. Police say the vehicle was
seen in Gold Hill with a man slumped over the steering wheel, and
when police saw the vehicle later in Medford it sped away. Police
said they tried to hit the tires of the Jeep, and it crashed near
the Medford Airport.
