Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press
BANDON, Ore. (AP) – The National Earthquake Information Center
says a quake with a magnitude of 6.0 off the Oregon coast last
night caused no damage and only a smattering of reports from people
who felt it as a weak jolt. The shallow quake was recorded at 7:31
p.m. PST more than 150 miles west of southern Oregon. The USGS
tells The Associated Press that the quake occurred in a seismically
active area and was “not uncommon at all.”
SALEM, Ore. (AP) – An ambitious plan to change the way people
get their health care in Oregon is on its way to reality. The state
Senate voted yesterday to advance Gov. John Kitzhaber’s effort to
focus on coordinating care and rewarding doctors for healthy
patients. After beating back a Republican effort to limit liability
in medical malpractice cases, senators voted to let the state press
forward with plans for creating coordinated care organizations.
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (AP) – Police say one of the first clues the
Nike shoes might be fake was the logo of Michael Jordan. An officer
wrote in his report that the former NBA superstar had too many
fingers. WSB-TV reports that the image and other tips led police in
Gwinnett County, Ga., to seize 78 pairs of Nike sneakers that
authorities contend are counterfeit. Two South Carolina women are
being questioned.
MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – The Christmas sales season was good to gift
and gourmet retailer Harry & David Holdings. The Medford company
saw a big boost in profits in its first holiday season since coming
out of bankruptcy protection. Harry & David says it earned almost
$35 million in its fiscal second quarter, a 151 percent improvement
over the 2010 holiday period.
