Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police say shots were fired at a good
Samaritan who tried to intervene in a purse-snatching at a Tri-Met
bus shelter in southeast Portland last night. No one was injured
and three suspects fled down a bike trail. Officers tracked them
with a police dog and detained two people for questioning.

HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – The Washington County sheriff’s office
says deputies were busy with three accidents in a two-hour period
last evening involving two bike riders and a pedestrian. The rash
of mishaps began with a pedestrian in a crosswalk struck by a car
making a turn. She suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and the
driver was cited for failing to yield. A bike rider was seriously
hurt when she was struck at another intersection. The driver was
arrested. Deputies say the other bike rider had been drinking and
suddenly turned off a sidewalk into traffic.

BEND, Ore. (AP) – The Deschutes County sheriff’s office says a
jail inmate was critically injured in a suicide attempt. Deputies
found the man last night needing medical attention. He was taken to
St. Charles Medical Center-Bend. KTVZ reports he had been jailed on
a California warrant accusing him of threatening a victim-witness.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon Senate has voted to give a
temporary reprieve to nearly 1,700 people who were dropped from a
property tax deferral program intended to help seniors and people
with disabilities stay in their homes. The measure would give
seniors two more years in the program if they were dropped from it
solely because they had a reverse mortgage. The program allows
people with low incomes to defer their property taxes, which are
paid back with interest when they die or the home is sold.
