Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press
WASHINGTON (AP) – The Senate’s top law enforcement officer says
congressional offices have received threatening letters containing
a powdery substance that’s been found to be harmless.
Sergeant-at-Arms Terrance Gainer said the author of the letters
wrote that additional letters would be sent and that some of these
could contain actual harmful material. The letters were postmarked
Portland, but authorities say the return address shown on the
envelopes appears to be phony.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Gov. John Kitzhaber is stepping up pressure
on Republicans in the Oregon House, who are stalling on the
governor’s top health care and education initiatives. Kitzhaber
holds a news conference today to discuss his priorities an hour
before lawmakers are scheduled to take action on Kitzhaber’s
proposal to redesign the way Oregon Health Plan patients get health
care.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Saudi Arabian teenager is charged with
interfering with a flight crew after his arrest in Portland for
allegedly trying to hit fellow passengers, taking a swing at a
flight attendant and refering to Osama bin Laden during a flight to
Houston. Police arrested 19-year-old Yazeed Mohammed A. Abunayyan
Tuesday night at Portland International Airport after his
Continental Airlines flight turned around after the incident. A
cousin said that his relative suffers from schizophrenia and hasn’t
taken his medication for three weeks.

LAS VEGAS (AP) – Police say a man is jailed in Las Vegas pending
his return to Oregon to face charges in a slaying nearly two
decades ago. Records show that Thomas Colbert is jailed pending an
extradition hearing in Nevada state court. Colbert and George Bogan
were indicted Feb. 7 in Grant County in the 1992 disappearance of
36-year-old Danny Sweet near Mitchell, Ore. Sweet’s bones were
found in 1996 near Mount Vernon. His death was ruled a homicide.
Police say Bogan was arrested in Roseburg.
