Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press
(Eds: Updates 2nd story)
TACOMA, Wash. (AP) – Tacoma police are investigating the death
of a toddler who found a gun inside a car with Oregon license
plates. Police say the gun discharged, killing the 3-year-old. The
family hasn’t been identified. The shooting occurred after the
family stopped at a Tacoma gas station early today and the adults
left the boy in the car.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police say a man wounded in a shootout
with officers last night in Portland was not one of the suspects
they were looking for in connection with a gang shooting Sunday.
Police were approaching a suspect’s house in north when they were
confronted by a 31-year-old man with a handgun from another
location. He was wounded in an exchange of gunfire and was last
reported in serious condition. No officers were injured.

VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) – Police reports show that a white powder
sent to members of Congress was a mixture of celery salt and corn
starch. The Oregonian reports that Christopher Lee Carlson of
Vancouver, Wash., came under FBI security after his wife spoke to a
police officer. Carlson is expected to be arraigned this week.

ALOHA, Ore. (AP) – Police say an Aloha woman offered two people
$3,000 to burn down her mobile home to get the insurance money.
Authorities say Roxanne Hall moved her belongings out of the mobile
home two weeks before the fire. The two people she allegedly paid
to burn down the mobile home have also been arrested.
