PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Raymond Felton scored 24 points and
LaMarcus Aldridge had 18, including a fadeaway jumper and two free
throws that proved the difference in the final minute, leading the
Portland Trail Blazers to a 90-87 victory over the Golden State
Warriors last night. Portland evened its record to 3-3 since Kaleb
Canales replaced the fired Nate McMillan.
KINGSTON, R.I. (AP) – Keyla Snowden made five 3-pointers,
hitting a pair of them to turn back Gonzaga’s last charge as
Kentucky beat the Zags 79-62 yesterday to advance to the East
Regional finals of the NCAA women’s tournament. Kayla Standish
scored 25 for No. 11 seed Gonzaga (28-6), which reached the round
of 16 for the third consecutive year.
TOKYO (AP) – Ichiro Suzuki was the main attraction in the
Seattle Mariners’ 5-1 loss to the Hanshin Tigers in an exhibition
game at the Tokyo Dome yesterday. Suzuki, who went 1 for 4, drew
huge cheers from the crowd of 42,139 when he hit a single down the
left field line in the top of the first inning. The Mariners are in
Japan to open the season against the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday
and Thursday.
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) – Saer Sene scored his first MLS goal on
his first shot in the first minute of play, and the New England
Revolution beat the Portland Timbers 1-0. Sene, a native of France
playing in just his second match for New England, converted a
header 28 seconds in for the eighth-fastest goal in MLS history.
Chris Tierney set it up with a cross from the left side.
