SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (AP) – The Springfield School District has
decided to cancel a cage fighting event that was planned as a
fundraiser, saying it “does not align with the district’s
philosophy.” The event had been planned for April 28 at Thurston
High School to raise money for the school’s wrestling team.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A federal judge has sentenced a Springfield
man to more than two years in prison for selling more than 4
million pounds of corn that was falsely labeled as organically
grown. Court documents say 55-year-old Harold Chase wrongfully
collected an extra $190,000 by passing the conventional grain off
as organic corn.
SALEM, Ore. (AP) – ODOT is reminding drivers that Monday is the
deadline to remove studded tires, and that the deadline won’t be
extended. Driving with studded tires after that could bring a $150
fine. The department wants studded tires off the roads because of
the damage studs cause to pavement.
NEW YORK (AP) – DirecTV subscribers in Oregon have regained
access to a host of channels that had been blacked out since Sunday
because of a contract impasse with Tribune Broadcasting. The two
companies said last night that they had struck a deal that will
allow DirecTV Inc. to carry all of Tribune’s local stations and WGN
America for the next five years. DirectTV said 5 million homes were
affected in 19 US markets.
