Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press
GRESHAM, Ore. (AP) – A burglary suspect holed up in a Gresham
deli refused police commands to come out, but he changed his mind
after hearing from a police dog. Police say the Portland K-9
persuaded the suspect to surrender early yesterday because he was
worried the bite would be worse than the bark.
SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A Salem man accused of trying to run down two
Mason County sheriff’s deputies is facing attempted murder charges.
Deputies were called to a Salem home yesterday afternoon for a
disturbance that began with a former tenant removing property. They
found a man in an SUV in a driveway blocked by a parked car and a
trailer. Deputies say the man rammed the trailer several times to
make room to turn around. He pushed the trailer into one deputy and
then backed into a patrol car, narrowly missing another deputy.
FLORENCE, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police are trying to
determine how a pipe bomb landed on a Highway 126 bridge east of
Florence. The Register-Guard reports troopers closed the highway
for about three hours while a bomb squad responded and removed the
pipe bomb. Lt. Gregg Hastings says investigators don’t know if
someone left the pipe bomb on the bridge intentionally.
MILWAUKIE, Ore. (AP) – The director of Oregon’s liquor agency
appears safe in his job, at least for now. The Oregon Liquor
Control Commission cancelled plans to discuss firing agency
director Steve Pharo (FEHR’-oh) today. The agency did not explain
the change. Pharo said last month that an aide to Gov. John
Kitzhaber asked him to step down but he has refused.
