PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The AAA auto club reports the average
price of gasoline in Oregon is $4.10, down 1 cent in a week but 13
cents higher than a month ago. It’s 17 cents higher than the
national average. Some metro prices from today’s survey: Portland
$4.08, Salem $4.10, Eugene-Springfield $4.14, and Medford-Ashland
$4.16.
COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (AP) – State Police say a man was driving
under the influence early yesterday when his pickup truck crossed
over and crashed head-on with a car on Highway 99 north of Cottage
Grove. The crash killed Teresa Grondona of Cottage Grove. Pickup
driver Jeremy Henry of Cottage Grove faces drunken driving and
manslaughter charges. Grondona’s daughter told KVAL that her mother
was on her way to give an intoxicated friend a ride home. She also
said her father was killed in a drunken driving accident years ago.
HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – An ambulance service employee is
hospitalized in Portland with burns from an oxygen tank explosion.
Metro West Ambulance says Eric Nehl of Scappoose was filing oxygen
tanks yesterday at a garage in Hillsboro when a malfunctioning
valve caused the explosion and fire. Nehl also is a volunteer
firefighter with the Scappoose Fire District.
HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – Washington County deputies say a woman
trying to light charcoal briquettes at a family cookout at Aloha
squirted on some high-octane fuel used in remote-control toy cars
and airplanes. That caused an explosion yesterday afternoon,
sending her 6-year-old son to intensive care at Legacy Emmanuel
Medical Center in Portland. He is expected to survive.
