PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland Police say two people were injured during an early-morning shooting outside a Portland club over the weekend. Officers say a 60-year-old woman was found shot outside the busy club early yesterday. Officers are investigating the incident but they believe the people in two cars driving by the club were shooting at each other. An adult man also walked into an area hospital with a gunshot wound. Both injures are not life-threatening. Portland’s gang team is investigating.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Opening statements at a retrial for a Eugene woman accused of killing her newborn son seem to indicate both attorneys will be taking similar approaches to the way the trail went the first time around. But they both promise they will be calling some new witnesses. After the first trial, several jurors told The Register-Guard they deadlocked one vote shy of the unanimous verdict needed to convict Angelica Swartout. The 24-year-old hotel clerk is charged with aggravated murder.

COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (AP) – An autopsy is scheduled today on the body of a 24-year-old inmate at the Cottage Grove Municipal Jail who was found dead on Saturday. The Eugene Register-Guard reports the man did not suffer any apparent injuries or trauma, and there was no sign of foul play. The man’s name is being withheld until his next of kin are notified. He was in jail on drug-related charges. The Lane County Medical Examiner’s Office is assisting in the investigation.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The state of Oregon is hoping its efforts to revamp health care will help it get access to federal dollars to pay for medical expenses for some prison inmates. Correctional Health Partners of Denver is exploring the possibility of becoming a coordinated care organization partly as a way to help the state tap into Medicaid. Inmates typically do not qualify for Medicaid coverage because they’re usually treated at clinics within prison facilities. But in 1997, the federal government said inmates who are hospitalized for more than a day outside of prison facilities could get their bills paid by Medicaid if they are eligible.
