ALOHA, Ore. (AP) – The Washington County sheriff’s office has identified a 52-year-old Aloha, Ore., man fatally shot by a sheriff’s deputy. Sgt. Bob Ray says Robert Kimball Fox came out of his home Sunday afternoon carrying a loaded high-power rifle as deputies responded to a disturbance report. Ray says Fox pointed the rifle “in the direction of the deputies in a threatening manner” and was shot once. The deputy has been placed on leave during a Washington County Major Crimes Team investigation.
LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. (AP) – A Clackamas County sheriff’s spokesman says two people were fatally shot last night at a home in the Portland suburb of Lake Oswego and one person has been taken into custody. Sgt. Adam Phillips says officers aren’t looking for anyone else. Neither the person in custody nor the victims were immediately identified. Deputies responded to a report of shots fired after several neighbors reported hearing shots. One man, though, said he figured the noise was just firecrackers.
SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A newspaper investigation of Oregon school lunchroom inspections has turned up a few problems, but health officials say that, generally, the cafeterias do a better job of sanitation than restaurants. The Salem Statesman Journal reports it asked all 196 Oregon school districts for the last two inspection reports, but only about two-thirds provided them. The reports are a requirement of federal meal subsidies. But the paper says most schools put them in kitchens, out of public view.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Dozens of demonstrators greeted Mitt Romney in Portland as he raised money for his presidential campaign. Romney did not make a public appearance during his brief stay in Oregon on Monday. A small crowd of Romney critics waved signs and chanted outside the Governor Hotel, and a handful briefly blocked traffic. Democrats also criticized Romney’s record as a businessman and as Massachusetts governor at a news conference. Police were out in force; nobody was arrested.
