Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

GEARHART, Ore. (AP) – A marine mammal researcher from Portland State University says about 20 dead sea lions – most with gunshot wounds – have been found in northern Oregon and southern Washington in just two months. Dalin D’Alessandro tells The Oregonian that the shooting surge is claiming both California and Steller sea lions. She thinks the killing is due to frustrated fishermen.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – It may be June but heavy rain and winds across five Oregon counties are blamed for temporarily cutting power to more than 4,000 Portland General Electric customers. The utility said last night that downed power lines and trees have caused the majority of the outages, which include the Salem, McMinnville and Beaverton areas.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A University of Oregon graduating senior has been sentenced to nearly three years in prison after his guilty plea in the drunken driving crash that killed a bicycling UO senior last November. The Register-Guard reports that Patrick Compton of Beaverton pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide and DUI in the death of Craig Macfie of Scotland.

CRESWELL, Ore. (AP) – Casey Martin and his cart are headed back to The Olympic Club for the U.S. Open. Martin, who sued for the right to use a golf cart because of a degenerative disease in his right leg, holed a 5-foot par putt on the final hole at Emerald Valley Golf Club in Creswell to be the medalist at a sectional qualifier and earn one of two spots to the U.S. Open. Martin is the golf coach at Oregon.
