Time for a little Pomp and Circumstance…
99 Siuslaw High School seniors will get their high school diplomas this week. Commencement exercises are set for eight pm, Friday night at the high school gym. A series of speakers, all students, will address the gathered grads and audience. Valedictorians John Johnson, Ann Watkins and Hannah Wartnik, along with Class Salutatorian Riley Rankin will deliver their comments. Watkins was named as the outstanding senior girl, while her classmate, John Pollard, was the outstanding boy.
Exercises have already been held at Mapleton High School. The 12 Sailors who picked up their diplomas last Saturday afternoon were addressed by Valedictorian Lindsay Free and Class Salutatorian Samantha Milbrett.
Commencement in Reedsport is set for this Sunday afternoon at two PM.
Mapleton School Board Could Make Decision
The Mapleton School Board will hold a special executive session this evening to discuss and review the results of their search for a new superintendent. After ten years at the helm of the Sailor ship Kyle Tucker will be leaving June 30th. The District has been in ‘search’ mode since March 20th. Two top candidates have been identified and will meet the public in a reception at the high school this afternoon between 4:30 and 5:30. The board will hold the private session beginning at 7:30.
Are You Ready?
The monthly “Neighbor Helping Neighbor” disaster preparedness class set for this Saturday will offer two more components to help residents get ready for whatever may come their way. The first half, Neighborhood First Aid, will be taught by the husband and wife; doctor and RN team of Randy and Hildy Boespflug (BASS-flug). Part two of the Saturday morning session will feature Dunes City Councilor Jaime Mills providing tips on how to organize your neighborhood using a program provided by Oregon Emergency Management. The session is sponsored by the Western Lane Emergency Operations Group and is presented free of charge at the main fire station, preregistration can be made by calling 997-3212.
City Hall Training
Florence City Hall will be closed tomorrow afternoon from two to five pm but public employees won’t be getting the afternoon off. City Recorder Kelli Weese says they’ll be holding a special “customer relations” training session.
