Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

SEASIDE, Ore. (AP) – Police in Seaside say an 89-year-old man was fatally injured when he was hit by an SUV while walking in a crosswalk. The Oregonian reports that witnesses told police a 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe struck the man while making a right turn. Richard Brown of Seaside died at a nearby hospital. The crash is under investigation. Police say the 67-year-old driver was not intoxicated.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A Salem teacher charged with having a sexual relationship with a student has been jailed a third time, with bond at $1 million. He’s accused of violating his release terms by making contact with the student online. The Salem Statesman Journal reports 49-year-old Michael Montgomery has been charged with contempt of court in addition to the sex abuse charges he faced. Montgomery is on unpaid leave. He taught languages and social studies at Sprague High School.

UNDATED (AP) – A state official says a large dock that floated ashore on a beach in Oregon is definitely debris from last year’s tsunami in Japan. Oregon Department of Parks and Recreation spokesman Chris Haven said yesterday that the Japanese consulate in Portland, Ore., traced the 66-foot-long concrete and steel floating dock to a manufacturer in Japan. And he confirmed it was in use in an area of Japan hit by the giant waves.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – An important measure of Oregon’s economy showed robust growth in 2011, but economists say it was lopsided. The Oregonian reports the state’s gross domestic product grew 4.7 percent in a year-over-year comparison, second among the 50 states. The increase was fueled by large gains among manufacturers of durable goods. Economists say that’s because of the strength of high-tech players such as Intel, the state’s largest employer with 15,000 on the payroll.
