BEND, Ore. (AP) – A 40-year-old man has collapsed and died while running in a half-marathon at Bend. KTVZ reports an off-duty doctor and nurse performed CPR until Deschutes County deputies and medics arrived, but William Tufts Jr., was declared dead at the scene. He was taking part in the “Dirty Half” half-marathon.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The Marion County sheriff’s search and rescue team is looking for a group of hikers lost near Detroit Lake. The two men and a woman were on a day hike yesterday when they became lost. KPTV reports they called for help from a cell phone, but they were unable to provide clues to their location. The station reports a second group of lost hikers was found last night in the same area.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A new study suggests that Portland’s cultural events pump more than $250 million into the local economy. The Oregonian reports that the found that the arts help support more than 8,500 jobs in Multnomah, Clackamas and Washington counties in 2010.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Interest in archery is soaring in the Portland area, perhaps because of the popularity of the “Hunger Games” books and movie. Classes at the city’s Mount Scott Community Center are up five fold over the past two years. A camp will offer a version of the “Hunger Games” where kids, wearing eye protection, sneak up on each other in the woods with foam arrows.
