ALBANY, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police say a state highway worker HAS rescued an injured man from a pickup truck that wound up submerged in a pond after a five-vehicle crash east of Albany. Troopers say Oregon Transportation Department worker Troy Elverfeld grabbed a metal rod, dove into the water and broke the driver’s side window, enabling him to pull the driver free. Five people were treated for minor injuries.
LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. (AP) – A fire official says a mother and two teenage boys in the Portland suburb of Lake Oswego helped rescue a teenage girl from a second-story bedroom in a burning house. They had a ladder in place and were encouraging the girl to come down when firefighters arrived yesterday, allowing crews to quickly reach the girl. The four family members were checked at a hospital and released.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Portland couple have pleaded not guilty to murder by abuse in the death of their 5-year-old son. Prosecutors say Valisha Eteuati and Kalman Eteuati caused the June 14 death of the boy by neglect and maltreatment. The Oregonian reports police are checking how officials responded after a call earlier this year to the state Department of Human Services involving a different child of the couple.
UNDATED (AP) – While judges on the Oregon Court of Appeals consider whether to authorize state biologists to kill two wolves for preying on livestock, the Imnaha pack has produced four pups this spring. At least two and perhaps all four of the packs in Oregon have produced pups this year, bringing Oregon much closer to a milestone in restoring the predators wiped out to protect livestock.
