GRANT PASS, Ore. (AP) – A Grants Pass man is believed to have drowned in the Rogue River just a few days before his 21st birthday. KDRV reports that Sean Kreuger is one of at least five people who have lost their lives in the river this year alone. This recent drowning happened Monday evening in Griffen Park. After an unsuccessful rescue mission the night before, divers and tenders went searching for the 20-year-old’s body yesterday.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – State officials say log exports helped Oregon’s timber harvest to increase for the second year in a row. The Oregon Department of Forestry reported that the 2011 harvest was up 13 percent from 2010. The 2011 harvest figure represented a 32 percent jump from 2009, when harvest was at a low following the housing market collapse.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Adam Lee Brown is due in court again today to face a grand jury indictment on charges he tried to sexually assault and then stabbed a 10-year-old boy in the bathroom of a Portland fast-food restaurant. The 49-year-old gained notoriety in the 1990s for attacks on children in Roseburg. Police say the boy’s neck was stabbed three times and he also suffered leg and hand cuts.
JEFFERSON, Ore. (AP) – Some cows in Oregon now have waterbeds to get a good night’s sleep. Van Loon Dairy Farm Co-Owner Kryn Van Loon says the cows seem happy with the new waterbeds at the farm near Jefferson. Van Loon says that translates to less stress for the animals and fewer lesions and fewer bedsores, which keeps them healthier. Farm owners haven’t noticed any increase in milk production, but they hope they will soon.
