PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – At a campaign fundraiser in Portland, President Barack Obama slammed rival Mitt Romney’s economic plan, saying the former Massachusetts governor would promote failed policies and cut taxes on the rich. The president pledged yesterday to raise taxes on the wealthy and spend money on infrastructure projects.
NEW YORK (AP) – A person familiar with a criminal securities fraud case against the head of an Oregon investment research firm says he’s expected to plead guilty today in New York. Authorities say John Kinnucan used inducements as the president of Broadband Research LLC to pump information out of public company insiders. Kinnucan is accused of relaying the inside information to his clients.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A chief executive for a Port of Portland terminal operator has testified before an administrative law judge about the pressures he faced over two disputed jobs that have led to a work slowdown. Elvis Ganda of terminal operator ICTSI Oregon Inc. said yesterday that weeks ago he told a longshore union official that he was contractually obligated to give the jobs to the electricians union and said he felt like he had a gun to his head. According to Ganda, the longshore union official replied, “I’m holding the other gun to your head.”
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police say two guns used in vintage movies starring John Wayne and William Holden have been stolen from a Portland video store that features movie memorabilia. The shop owner at Movie Madness told officers that a man spent about 25 minutes in the store yesterday afternoon before stealing the guns.
