SEATTLE (AP) – Pinch-hitter Jayson Nix lined a three-run double off Seattle reliever Shawn Kelley in the eighth inning, and the New York Yankees rallied for a 5-2 win over the Mariners yesterday to complete a 2-5 West Coast trip. The Mariners missed their chance at a third straight series victory after their offense disappeared after the first inning.
SEATTLE (AP) – Ichiro Suzuki is ready for a new experience tomorrow when the newest Yankees outfielder makes his debut at home against the Red Sox. Suzuki said he’s excited about his first game in pinstripes, when the slumping Yankees open a weekend series against Boston. Suzuki was traded from Seattle to New York on Monday for two prospects.
RENTON, Wash. (AP) – The Seattle Seahawks have locked up center Max Unger beyond the 2012 season after signing the anchor of Seattle’s offensive line to a multi-year extension. Unger, who was a second-round pick out of Oregon in 2009, was entering the final year of his initial rookie contract and was due to become a free agent after the 2012 season. Terms of Unger’s deal were not released.
CHESTER, Pa. (AP) – Eddie Johnson of the Seattle Sounders scored in the 91st minute to give the Major League Soccer All-Stars a 3-2 victory over Chelsea last night. Chris Wondolowski and Chris Pontius also scored goals for the MLS All-Stars at PPL Park, the home of the Philadelphia Union. Frank Lampard and John Terry scored for Chelsea, the touring English Premier League team.
