EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – The Eugene Police chief says that despite what critics say, his officers are not using a city law to unfairly target homeless people and push them out of the city center. Eugene’s downtown exclusion zone allows authorities to ban people accused – but not convicted – of certain crimes from the downtown core for 90 days or more. The city council is holding hearings to decide whether to renew the ordinance or let it expire on Nov. 30.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A Springfield man found guilty but insane of attempted murder in 2010 has been ordered to spend 20 years under the jurisdiction of Oregon’s Psychiatric Security Review Board. The Register-Guard reports Miguel Angel Partida-Haaby was arrested in October 2010 after stabbing his landlord’s boyfriend.
TIGARD, Ore. (AP) – Federal agents have arrested a Portland-area man as part of a national operation against dealers in designer drugs such as synthetic versions of marijuana and methamphetamine. The Oregonian reports 32-year-old Joshua P. Becker of Bull Mountain and four others are accused of making $3.5 million in proceeds from sales of synthetic drugs.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Columbia County Sheriff’s deputies have seized dozens of cattle from a rancher suspected of animal neglect. Sheriff Jeff Dickerson said a search warrant was served yesterday on 86-year-old William Holdner, who was convicted in March of water pollution charges in connection with his cattle ranching operation.
